DETAILS: Sunset Promotions and the Fringe, the team that has brought you such epic parties as “Freaksgiving” and the “Icebreakers Ball” team up again for their fourth annual twisted take on the annual Mexican holiday . It’s “FREQO DE MAYO 2009” with an all-star cast of future world breaks, Latin, house, funk, mashups, dubstep and tech-hop. Emerging downtempo star Vibesquad will melt the latenight, NYC world-breakbeat pioneer Sabo (Sol Selectas-Turntables on the Hudson) will update the Latin sound while Australian legend (2001-2005 Technics Australian DJ of the Year) Kid Kenobi and SF’s own Motion Potion will write a treatise on the breaks. The UK’s Scuba, and Sf’s own Eprom, and An-Ten-Nae doing dubstep. Electro and house heroes Victor Vega and EPROM will be on the scene as well as downtempo killers Mycho Cocoa, and Absurge. Expect nothing but the fattest breaks and mashups from Tim Dietz and Big$Bill. It adds up to an amazing night of eclectic dance music, plus the funny hats, piñatas and general mania we’d expect from a twisted Mexican holiday.

VibeSquad is the multi-personality brainchild of Aaron Holstein. With releases on NativeState, Proboscis, Interchill, Muti, and Sonic Dragon (Hong Kong) in 2007 alone VibeSquad is quickly emerging as a top producer in the west coast US electronic music scene. Both 2007 EPs "Return of The Pudding People" & "Songs to Accompany Dance Move: The Worm" have been making there way around the globe showing up in DJ’s sets and causing serious mayhem on dancefloors. Though his legendary live sets may cause whiplash and heart attacks in the unsuspecting bystander, those prepared to launch get much more than they bargained for. Aaron’s music defies typical genre-labels and covers tempos from slow ’n hard lowriding krunkadelics to mid-tempo barnstormers all in a seamlessly flowing soulful mash- dirty and beautiful as life itself. Aaron also plays bass/keys for the bands ZILLA (w/ Michael Travis & Jamie Janover) & SPORQUE (w/Ooah & Jamie Janover)

Kid Kenobi is an Australian DJ who won People's Choice NSW DJ of the Year in 2001 at the Australian Dance Music Awards, and Technics Australian DJ of the Year in 2001-2005. He has been featured in FHM, Rolling Stone, Ralph and Urb and also writes for a bevy of music magazines. Kid Kenobi has fans all over the globe and a large following in Australia. He has also mixed so many CDs for Ministry Of Sound Australia that they made him his own "Sessions" series. He recently mixed the Ministry Of Sound Clubber's Guide to 2007 with Goodwill. He and his partner MC Shureshock are regarded by many as an excellent MC/DJ party duo, with MC Shureshock raising the duo's high energy show to a level that makes people really enjoy themselves. Kid Kenobi has played alongside some of the world's most popular dance music groups such as The Prodigy. On February 4,2006, Kid Kenobi started his role as presenter of the long-running Saturday night dance music show Mi.

Sabo production in the last four years has gained international recognition and brought him to DJ in countries like Brazil, Spain, Dominican Republic, Austria, Mexico, and Kosovo, as well as various cities in the US. He has six EP releases on his own label Sol*Selectas, two 12" releases on Wonderwheel Recordings, and a full length album on the way in '08 for Irma Records in Italy, with production partner Zeb. From Brazilian to Afrobeat, Disco to Reggae, Hip Hop to Dub, Miami Bass to House, Latin to Techno, Sabo is known to be locked into each style as if it were the only thing he's been spinning for the past 10 years, and he flows seamlessly from one genre to the next. He's been a special guest at Turntables on the Hudson parties for the last 5 years, is an instructor at the Scratch DJ Academy, and was nominated to URB magazine's Annual 'Next 100' in 2006.

MoPo (Motionpotion) is one of the country’s foremost purveyors of reinvented roots music, from nufunk to rocktronica to tech hop, MoPo takes the stuff you know and supercharges it. Little John (Raindance) has long been known as a premier purveyor of cutting edge eclectic electronica. Victor Vega and Absurge are the Fringe crew’s resident electro and minimal experts, Big Dolla and Tim Dietz hold down the funk, breaks and mashups, while Mycho Cocoa simply can’t be categorized. The Fringe is a collective of nearly 100 people dedicated to pushing evolutionary music on an unsuspecting public. For three years straight, the Fringe has hosted marathon soundsessions at the Burning Man Festival and has hosted numerous parties in the Bay Area to support their artistic habits. Fringe painters perform at most events and have shown off their work at various local art shows.
